    Release Agents

Price-Driscoll patented the first aerosol mold release in 1947, and has been a leader in the industry ever since.

Our line of release agents range from economical, all-purpose releases to advanced, specialty formulations. Formulated for broad application, our release agents are able perform double or triple duty (seal, release and lubricate) in most manufacturing environments—saving you money, increasing efficiency, and decreasing cycle times from day one.

    Release Agents

    Features

Broad range of release agents with excellent release efficiency and lubrication properties across a wide range of materials and processes

Chemically inert towards mold and materials, with strong adhesion to the mold surface for exceptionally low in in-mold buildup/mold fouling

Available in aerosol, liquid or concentrated packaging, with custom formulations available

    Benefits

Simplifies selection; decreases cycle times and increases productivity; seals,  protects and extends life of tools, dies and molds

Improve part/surface quality and cosmetics; reduces scrap and defect rates and maintenance time; will not rust or mar mold surface

Easily integrated with existing manufacturing processes or tailored for unique circumstances

    Plastic

Releases for plastics used in injection, compression and rotational molding.

    Plastic Releases

    Rubber

Releases for molding and extrusion of rubber, silicone and most other elastomers.

    Rubber Releases

    Polyurethane

Releases for flexible, integral skin and rigid polyurethane molding and casting.

    Polyurethane Releases

    Metals

Releases for shell molding, sand, lost-wax and die casting, and extruding metals.

    Types of Release Agents

We provide multiple types of release agents, with varying durability, efficiency and transfer properties. Proper selection is critical for maximum performance.

    Conventional Release Agents

Conventional (or sacrificial) mold release agents need to be applied every molding cycle. The workhorse of the industry, they are generally built-on silicone, wax or petroleum bases and are best suited as all-purpose releases for high volume or small, complex parts. During each cycle, a degree of the release will transfer to the molded part, and therefore may need to be cleaned off post-mold. Some conventional agents are more difficult to remove from parts than others, and may limit your ability to paint or bond post-mold. Conventional release agents are selected for their ease of use, effectiveness across a broad range of applications, and favorable economics.

    Conventional Release Agents
    Semi-Permanent Release Agents

The newest generation of release chemistry features a reactive or functional silicone that bonds with the mold’s surface (sometimes with the assistance of heat) to form an extremely durable parting film that provides multiple release cycles per application. Semi-permanent release agents can be sprayed, brushed or wiped on, and once cured, provide high surface slip and temperature stability up to 600°F. Many also function as a mold sealer at higher concentrations. Semi-permanent releases require more upfront investment than conventional releases, but return that time and money through their effectiveness and efficiency, particularly in more complex operations.

    Semi-Permanent Release Agents
    Blended Release Agents

Blended release agents combine silicone with additional proprietary additives to combine the ease of use of a conventional release with some of the performance qualities of a semi-permanent. A single coat will rapidly cure at room temp, and allow for multiple releases in most operations. Blended release agents outperform conventional release agents at elevated temperatures, or for problem areas requiring a higher-degree of slip. Also included here is our popular line of Parfilms, which have been specifically formulated for use with epoxies, polyesters, urethane polymers. Choose blended releases for ease of use and elevated performance.

    Blended Release Agents
    Non-Silicone Release Agents

Non-silicone release agents provide the same high level of slip as our silicone-based products but without the oily residue, making them ideal for critical operations where a silicone oil can not be used due to possible contamination, regulatory restrictions, or a desire for post-mold operations such as painting or bonding. Our non-silicone release agents are high-purity and non-contaminating, with water-soluble, bio-degradable, and FDA compliant (21 CFR 172.880) options available. Applications include clean-room molding, electronics potting, food-safe processes, silicone molding and other critical operations where a silicone-release is not appropriate.

    Available Formulations

Many of our products are available in multiple formulations to help customers balance productivity, worker safety, and economics.

    NF

In support of providing products with unparalleled worker safety, Price-Driscoll continues to maintain the broadest selection of non-flammable mold releases in the industry. Our NF formulation utilizes a non-flammable propellant and non-flammable solvent suggested by the S.N.A.P. sector of the EPA. For use on steel molds only. Chose NF when you absolutely must have the lowest-flammability product on the market.
